Les apparitions de la sainte vierge qui eurent lieu au début du Xxème siècle dans un petit village du Portugal ont inspiré le titre de ce jeu, peint vers 1927 par un illustrateur italien anonyme qui lui donna ce nom peut-être en vertu d'une dévotion personnelle à la Vierge Marie.
